Sounds like Val might be about to let it slip that Xavier was labelled a villain by the casting device (and by extension, her). If so, I wonder how that’ll play out for both of them. I can’t imagine Xavier taking it well, but it might help him understand a thing or two about his current self. Val’s getting a stern talking-to at least, given Emperor Penguin already made his stance known on judging others by their supposed “role.”
Also, I just have to say, the expressions in this comic are absolutely lovely. They have both the freedom and whimsy of your usual cartoony faces, and the detail to capture the sheer emotion in Val’s face in panel 1 without compromising that style at all. The only other artists I’ve seen capture such a broad range in their comics have to switch their style at least a little for some expressions. The time and effort you put into each page shows!
Xavier: *mixture of embarrassment and perverse pleasure that he isn’t being kicked out after all*
😀
Oh my! Maybe “Alexis” or “Xavier” will take Theo back to his room.
Emporer’s bowed head of defeat is so funny to me. He dares not to go against the rules even when he knows they are being manipulated.
“Yea, dude is a total badass who… I mean, um, no. I don’t know the dangers or what he is capable of.”
Ah, UST. Isn’t it great?
Xavier seems to be taking this worse than being kicked out. I think he at least understood being kicked out.
