It’s still an in the weeds hypothesis. But one could argue the class system is installed to keep people in line. Teaching learned helplessness so that people who would become “Mains,” or people whom could influence society away from the spot light. We don’t actually know what a lot of the exam tested for exactly. It could very well be designed in a way to curve downward for specific instances of people. For example, it’s feasible it’s not intentional and is simply a side effect from being unable to write characters in suffering from this system in a believable way. But both Alex and Xavier whilest lacking a lot of the appropriate terminology for their feelings and experiences, are actually very emotionally intelligent and in Xavier’s case exceedingly independant and driven.

I understand that he’s been acting out lately very violently, but that has less to do with him being predisposed towards the behaviors and more him suffering from the death of his family that happened realitively recently in canon. If that had never happened, one could reasonably assert that he would have taught many people to rise above their circumstances by leveraging their minds and available resources. A definition of a hero in my opinion. Alexis if given the means to form meaningful relationships with others, something the s ript actively withholds from civilians by controlling their enviroment, would have made a lovely consouler or therapist.

I’d posit the Mains aren’t actually special beyond a predisposition to be easily manipulated or controlled. Alexis and Xavier are already Main’s and Protagonist’s in my opinion. Life is ugly due to a complicated myriad of reasons. That these two can strive to rise above their circumstances and traumas already elevates them above a guilded class of “Main’s” at least in my opinion.

Uhhhhhhh… I just meant she was being really cool, like a main character in a tv show, regardless of how the society in this book series works. I understand your point, and big fancy words aside… I think I agree..? Alexis definitely has the qualities of a hero, and so does Xavier! Even heroes have low moments. That said, I’m still loving this!
